Is Butt Enhancement Dangerous?
In this article, I will cover the different methods women consider to make their butt bigger and some of the possible side effects you could experience from these procedures.
Buttocks enlargement has been a growing fad and continues to gain in popularity, a bigger butt is something many women would like to have, unfortunately, some of the procedures can be risky and may cause some unpleasant side effects.
Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Iggy Azalea have all had some kind of butt enlargement, the bad thing about it is that many of these procedures are not permanent and have to be redone.
What is Butt Enhancement?
Butt enhancement is when a certain method or procedures are performed by doctors or plastic surgeons to artificially increase the size of your buttocks.
Buttocks enhancement can shape, lift and contour your butt.
Some of the more popular methods include:
- Silicone buttocks implant
- Silicone buttocks injections
- Brazilian butt lift (Fat Grafting)
Each method has a certain amount of risk and some of the procedures are not permanent but let me go into detail about each method.
Silicone Buttocks Implant
Also known as gluteal augmentation is a method used to increase the size and shape of the buttocks, it can help make your buttocks bigger, rounder and fuller.
Buttocks implants are usually silicone based devices that are inserted deep within the tissue of the buttocks, the implant is usually placed below the muscle. While this procedure is common, it is also risky and there may be complications.
While placing the implant below the muscle is a more popular procedure, some surgeons will place the implants above the muscle, the problem with this method is that eventually the implants may sag, harden and lose their natural look.
Silicone implants may be considered permanent, the truth is, most butt implants will have to be replaced within 8-12 years, that is if there are no further complications.
Health risks of silicone implants:
- Adverse reaction to anesthesia
- Scarring
- Blood clotting
While these implants can withstand a good amount of pressure, just like breast implants there is always a risk of rupture, fluid displacement, and in some cases, the implant can shift from its original position.
Silicone butt implants is a method usually chosen by those with very little fat reserves or those who want a bigger than average increase in butt size.
A major concern for anyone who is thinking about silicone implants you should take into consideration that sitting on your butt with implants may not be very comfortable.
Recovery time from buttocks implants can take several weeks, and while most surgeons will tell you that this method is safe, about 5% of the people who have this procedure do experience more severe complications.
Silicone Injections (Very Risky)
This is a method that is often sought after due to its low cost, however, this is one that involves many health risks.
Many silicone injections are performed by doctors who are not certified and often use dangerous substances.
In 2017 the U.S Food and Drug Administration1 warned against using silicone for any sort of body contouring including buttocks enlargement.
There are several potential risks involved with silicone injections, there are many side effects that can be caused by these injections and in some cases, they have been fatal.
Someone who is inexperienced with this method could shoot silicone into a blood vessel which can block blood flow and cause a stroke or heart attack, other side effects may include:
- Deformities of the buttocks
- Infections
- Compromised immune system
- Skin hardening
- Burning itching or swelling
It is safe to say that silicone buttocks injections are a procedure you should avoid at all costs.
Brazilian Butt Lift
A Brazilian butt lift, also known as fat grafting is a procedure where your own fat is extracted from other parts of your body such as the stomach and thighs, the fat is then injected into the buttocks to increase the size and shape.
In some cases, doctors will use certain liposuction techniques to gain a better shape.
While Brazilian butt lift procedures are common it can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for full recovery.
Some of the side effects of a Brazilian butt lift procedure may include:
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Mild to severe discomfort
Of all the buttocks enlargement procedures fat grafting is considered the one with less potential side effects, however, like any surgery you should always consult a board-certified specialist so that he or she can explain the possible risks and possible side effects.
Conclusion
Just because you see that butt enhancement is glorified and popular among celebrities, you should always take the risks into consideration.
Anything invasive to enhance your body should be looked at with extreme caution, you should also know that there are many natural methods you may want to consider that can have similar benefits without harmful side effects.

Hi Crissy
Thank you for this article, it has really given me some insight to booty surgery, I have considered it a couple of times but the more I read, the more I am discouraged. I just ordered a Noogleberry it seems like the best place for me to start.
